According to Mikala: St. John is such a beautiful place! This was definitely one of my favorite island trips. First of all, the house that we rented had the best views...both sunset and sunrise...and wonderful blue-green seas. This was Andante by the Sea (see more information at http://www.andantebythesea.com. We spent a lot of time on the many decks, the pool and jacuzzi. The rental house was located near Cruz Bay and had great views of Chocolate Hole and Rendevous Bay.

This was our first visit to the Caribbean, and I have to say that I am hooked. The weather was in the 80's and a little humid. However, the trade winds provided a cooling effect throughout our visit, which made the weather very enjoyable. The turquoise water views were fantastic!

Because the island is so small, we were able to drive around the whole thing quite a few times. After basking on our decks at the house, we took drives on the Northshore Road and stopped at Hawksnest Bay, Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, and Maho Bay beaches.

One of my favorite beaches was Hawksnest Bay. We snorkeled this Bay one day. The fish life was magnificent. At one point, I noticed a large group of black fish with a purple stripe. There were a couple hundred swimming together. I became still and they all swam right by me...totally awesome! As I was swimming back to shore, I floated over a large green eel type fish...it was pretty, but I was a little anxious to continue on. The water was very calm this day, although, on another day we visited, the water was pretty rough and no one was swimming.

Trunk Bay was a very beautiful beach also. This beach gets a lot more visitors than the other beaches. Walking on the sandy beach was terrific. The sand is so soft and white, and the water is so refreshing (not too cold).

On another day we drove the Centerline Road to Coral Bay. We kayaked around here one day (see other Talk Story titled St. John, USVI Kayak). We drove on a dirt road to Lameshure Bay, where we walked along the rocky beach. Another perfect day. On another day, we rented a powerboat from Naughty Nymph and boated to Jost Van Dyke (see other Talk Story) and then around the North and West sides of St. John. We stopped to take a dip near Maho Bay in the brilliant turquoise blue waters.

St. John is definitely a very beautiful tropical location to visit. The uncrowded island is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sights.
