According to Mikala: I found it pretty amazing that this trail was so close to the city of Ogden. The trails around this area wind through canyons and along the hills below the Wasatch Mountain Range.

I was visiting my mother, who suggested we hike up the Waterfall Canyon trail. I believe we started from the top of 27th street (I'm not sure, because she drove). As we hiked up a gradual incline, I could see the city down below and the beauty of the mountains right above us. We hiked along the hills for a while, enjoying the view down below toward Ogden and Salt Lake. We finally reached the bottom of the trail to Waterfall Canyon, where we crossed a bridge over the stream and headed up into the forest.

From this point, we hiked under a heavy canopy of trees and through green fern forests. The trail runs along the creek that comes from the falls. Some parts are pretty steep and rocky. We had to climb up and over some boulders and around trees. Finally, I could see the waterfall in the distance. It was a little late in the year, so there wasn't much water flowing, but it was still pretty. I'm sure it must be even more gorgeous in the spring when the water is flowing heavier.

We reached the top of the canyon and were surrounded by rock walls. The waterfall trickled through the rocks to the ground and continued down the canyon. The view toward the valley below was beautiful.

We stayed up at the top for a while, enjoying the peacefulness. When we had arrived, there were some other people around. Once they left, we had the place all to ourselves for a long while.

We headed back down the canyon in the afternoon. By the time we reached our car, my feet were protesting from the downward pressure in my shoes. No matter...I know it takes some effort to reach someplace that is very special and beautiful.
